How can I prevent cracked heels?
Dry, cracked heels are a common problem, especially during the winter months. Unfortunately, left untreated they can become painful too! There are some steps you can take, however, to prevent cracked heels from causing you discomfort.
You can use a pumice stone with a mild exfoliator to help remove dead skin from your heels. First enjoy a relaxing soak to soften the skin, then dry thoroughly before you start.
After showering, apply a moisturizer to your heels to help soothe and soften skin. You can also try applying petroleum jelly before bedtime, then slipping on some cotton socks to seal in the moisture while you sleep. If your heels are severely dry, we can prescribe a moisturizing cream to help prevent cracked heels from becoming a problem.
