Should a Diabetic Clip their Own Toenails?

"Should a diabetic clip their own toenails? In most cases, the answer is no. Diabetics are prone to poor circulation, diminished sensation in their feet, neuropathy, visual problems, and often have difficulty reaching their feet. All of these factors put diabetics at risk for infection, so they should not clip their own toenails since even a slight nip of the skin can lead to serious complications. Diabetics should not only have a podiatrist routinely trim their toenails, but should also have routine foot examinations to help prevent the complications that can result from diabetes."
